Air fryer French toast sticks

Golden and crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside and coated in a sweet cinnamon sugar. These are perfect for quick and easy weekend breakfast, brunch or dessert, served with fresh berries and a drizzle of maple syrup. Ready in less than 15 minutes from start to finish, you can also bake these in the oven (see recipe notes below).

Time to prepare : 5 minutes

Time to cook : 8 minutes

Serves : 1

Ingredients

2 slices of brioche bread

1 egg

50ml any milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 tbsp granulated sugar

1/2 tsp cinnamon

Method

  1. Use a sharp knife to cut each brioche bread slice into 3 sticks, giving you a total of 6 bread sticks.

  2. Mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl and set to one side.

  3. Line the air fryer drawer with a sheet of baking paper or lightly spray it with cooking oil so that the French toast doesn't stick.

  4. Whisk the egg, milk and vanilla together in a bowl using a fork.

  5. Dunk each brioche bread stick into the eggy mixture and then place into the air fryer (see notes below on how to bake in an oven).

  6. Air fry at 200°C for 8 minutes until golden and crisp, flipping them over halfway through.

  7. Toss each warm toasted stick into the sugar and cinnamon mix to coat them fully.

  8. Serve warm with maple syrup, fresh berries and a dusting of icing sugar.

Good to know:

  • Vegetarian.

  • You can use any milk or dairy-free milk alternative.

  • I prefer using brioche bread for French toast as it's soft and pillowy and slightly sweeter, but you can use any brea. Use gluten-free bread to make this GF.

  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Can be eaten warm or cold.

  • To bake these in the oven, pre-heat a fan oven to 180°C and bake them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper for 12 minutes, flipping them over half way through, until golden and crisp.
