Ripen bananas in the oven, bake-hack

I enjoy the slow process of watching bananas over-ripening in the fruit bowl before I use them in recipes...but occasionally, an excuse to bake comes out of nowhere...which is where this hack comes to hand

Time to bake : 20 - 30 minutes

Ingredients

Bananas

(*see 'good to know', below)

Method

  1. Preheat a fan oven to 160C and line a baking tray with baking paper or tin foil

  2. Bake bananas for 20 - 30 minutes (depending on how ripe they are already, the more they need to ripen, the more time they'll take)

  3. Once ready, their skin will be black and they should be soft to touch (see photos above)

  4. Remove from the oven and let them cool before squeezing them from their skins to use in any recipe that requires mashed, ripe bananas

Good to know:

  • Always line your baking tray as the bananas tend to 'leak' when they're being baked

  • This only really works for bananas which have yellow-ed and are ripe enough to eat, it's not ideal for bananas which still have green on their skin and would be bitter to eat
